From Beirut Solar Snake to Sibline: Lebanon’s Largest Solar Projects

ASACO | INSIGHTS

For years, the Beirut River Solar Snake stood as Lebanon’s largest and most recognizable solar project. Built above the Beirut River, it introduced solar energy to the capital on an unprecedented scale and became a national landmark for renewable energy.

Today, a new project holds the record.

With an operating capacity of 13 MWp, the Sibline Cement solar farm is now Lebanon’s largest completed solar project. Behind both milestones is ASACO General Trade & Contracting.

Beirut Solar Snake: The Project That Set the Benchmark

Completed in 2015, the first phase of Beirut Solar Snake brought a large grid-connected photovoltaic installation into the heart of Beirut.

Its distinctive design placed thousands of solar panels above the river, transforming previously unused urban space into a source of renewable electricity.

At the time, the project established a new benchmark for solar energy in Lebanon. Its importance went beyond capacity. Its scale, location and visibility made solar infrastructure part of the capital’s landscape and demonstrated what a major renewable-energy project could look like in Lebanon.

ASACO’s role in delivering Beirut Solar Snake established the company as a contractor capable of executing complex, large-scale and highly visible solar installations.

Sibline: A New Record for Solar Energy in Lebanon

A decade later, the Sibline Cement solar farm raised that benchmark.

Completed with an operating capacity of 13 MWp, the first phase of the Sibline project is now Lebanon’s largest completed solar farm.

Developed for one of the country’s major industrial facilities, the project represents an important step forward for commercial and industrial solar energy in Lebanon.

While Beirut Solar Snake demonstrated how solar energy could be integrated into a challenging urban environment, Sibline demonstrates what can be achieved at an industrial scale.

The project was executed by ASACO, further strengthening a track record that includes major public, commercial and industrial energy projects.

One Company Behind Both Milestones

Beirut Solar Snake and Sibline represent two important chapters in Lebanon’s solar development.

Beirut Solar Snake, with a capacity of approximately 1 MWp, set the record as Lebanon’s largest solar installation at the time and established an early benchmark for large-scale solar energy in the country. Sibline later broke that record, reaching an operating capacity of 13 MWp and becoming Lebanon’s largest completed solar farm.

What connects both milestones is ASACO.

The company that helped establish Lebanon’s early solar benchmark with Beirut Solar Snake later raised it with Sibline. This progression demonstrates ASACO’s ability to undertake increasingly large and demanding projects while supporting the continued development of Lebanon’s renewable-energy sector.

Founded in 1998, ASACO provides consultation, engineering, design, supply, installation and integration for solar energy, battery storage and energy infrastructure projects. Across Lebanon and international markets, the company has supplied and delivered more than 100 MWp.

Lebanon’s Largest Solar Project Today

Beirut Solar Snake remains one of Lebanon’s most important and recognizable renewable-energy landmarks.

Today, Sibline holds the title of Lebanon’s largest completed solar project, with an operating capacity of 13 MWp and is currently working on expanding this record with ASACO.

Together, the two projects demonstrate the evolution of solar energy in Lebanon, from a pioneering urban landmark to a major industrial installation, and ASACO’s continuing role in leading that progress.
