From Beirut Solar Snake to Sibline

ASACO’s role in Lebanon’s solar development did not begin with Sibline.

A decade earlier, ASACO was part of the joint venture awarded the first phase of the Beirut River Solar Snake, one of the most recognizable renewable-energy projects in the country.

Connected to the grid in 2015, the Beirut River Solar Snake was Lebanon’s first major grid-connected photovoltaic plant. Its first completed phase installed 1 MWp of solar capacity above the Beirut River, transforming unused urban space into a source of renewable electricity.

The project was technically distinctive, nationally visible and unprecedented in Lebanon at the time. It demonstrated that large solar infrastructure could be integrated into a difficult urban environment and connected directly to the national electricity network.

Years later, ASACO delivered the 13 MWp Sibline Cement solar farm and established a new national benchmark for operating solar capacity.

The progression is significant: ASACO helped deliver the project that introduced large-scale, grid-connected solar power to Lebanon and later executed the project that became the country’s largest operating solar farm.

The company also delivered the battery energy-storage project for Daher Foods and Master Chips, with approximately 10 MWh of storage capacity. It is the largest private-sector commercial and industrial Battery Energy Storage System in Lebanon.
